RESERVATION QUESTIONS

Can I book a stay at your campground?

Thunder Canyon Campground is a Semi-Private Membership Campground. We would be happy to have you stay with us.

If you have already purchased a membership, you will save 25% on your stay.

If you are not a member, you are welcome to join us, but you will not receive the member discount of 25%

Memberships can be purchased at https://www.rvoddsquad.com/join

Should you have any issues or questions making a reservation online, feel free to call us at (256) 632-2103 Mon-Fri 9am – 5pm Central time to speak to one of our knowledgeable volunteers.

Yes we are!

The most popular times of year  to visit Thunder Canyon are spring and fall, so make sure to book your favorite site right away!

When considering staying at Thunder Canyon in winter, please note that winters in Northern Alabama are relatively mild with occasional dips. Although snow doesn’t last long, we do experience below freezing temperatures and you need to be fully ready for winter RVing.

During winter, the shower/bathhouse will be closed. You must be self-contained in your RV – able to use your own facilities and store fresh water, as park water may need to be turned off due to the cold.

Please plan accordingly if you would like to visit us during the winter.

When in doubt, please plan to come visit us when the weather is a little warmer!

All sales are final, however if you need to cancel, we can provide a profile credit on your Thunder Canyon Campground account for future use.  Please see our most up-to-date cancellation & refund policy here

RATES & SITE QUESTIONS

What types of RV sites do you have?

We have both Full and Partial Hookup sites available.

  • Full Hookups = Water, Electric (20/30/50 amp), Sewer
  • Partial Hookups = Water, Electric (20/30/50 amp), NO Sewer (there is a dump station onsite)

Premium Full Hookup Sites – These sites are nestled under the trees and very spacious.

Standard Full Hookup Sites – The Standard sites resemble your typical RV Site. This is our newer/upper section with little to no trees.

Premium Partial Hookup Sites – These sites are nestled under the trees.

We have 5 partial hookup sites at this time: sites 6, 10, 16, 17 & 18. The partial sites can accommodate a small RV (24 ft max) and have water and 20/30/50 amp electric only, no sewer.

We’re excited to have our tent campers come stay at Thunder Canyon Campground. Tent camping is allowed in the partial hookup sites (6, 10, 16, 17, 18) for a maximum of 10 days at a time. Up to two (2) tents or screened tents per site are allowed.

No tent camping will be allowed during winter since the shower/bath house will be closed when the temperature gets too low, so please come visit us when the weather is a little warmer.

256-632-2103.

Each site has an electric meter on the pedestal. We only charge for the electricity you use, and we only charge what we are charged by the power company. The electric is essentially a reimbursement.

Typically, the monthly electric cost ranges from $50-$100 per site depending on your usage.

*Just like sticks and bricks, summer/winter electric bills will usually be higher than spring/fall electric bills depending on your electric needs for heating/cooling.

Although we have plans for refurbished cabins in the future, they are not yet ready to accommodate guests. We recommend you check out the RV rentals instead.

RV Rentals are just like cabins. Just bring your food and clothes. For more information, check out our RV Rental page below.

We recommend that you try visiting Thunder Canyon Campground for at least a week before making any major changes. It’s important that you come here first, make sure you like Alabama, and make sure that Thunder Canyon is a fit.

Worst case, you get a vacation and best case, you find your new home.

As far as details go, we have a monthly meeting for our Founders in which we discuss the behind the scenes of Thunder Canyon. If you’d like to become a Founder and join in our monthly meetings where we discuss all the details you can become a Founder here: https://www.rvoddsquad.com/join

We would love to discuss your special event. We would need to know the details of your event prior to further discussion. Contact us directly to discuss!

We can be reached at  256-632-2103 M – F 9am – 5pm Central time. You can also email us at [email protected] with your inquiry.

MEMBERSHIP QUESTIONS

Why is Thunder Canyon a membership campground?

Firstly, we are seeking to build a community of people who give priority to God, Family and Country, in that order. We have rules and décor that reflect those beliefs and do not want anyone to be offended by them.

Secondly, due to insurance & liability reasons, all who enter past the gate must be a registered guest and fill out a waiver. To keep everyone safe, we cannot allow just anyone to walk or drive onto Thunder Canyon property due to our beautiful but rugged trails and 80-foot canyon drops.

Absolutely not!

If you would like to stay and are not a member, we offer a “guest” pass.

All you have to do when making a reservation is type the word “guest” in lieu of your member ID and you can make a reservation.

Just know that you will pay more as a non-member (members save 25%). If you’re only staying a few days, you might just try the guest option, but if you stay longer than 4 days, the membership pays for itself.

Here’s the link to make a reservation: https://thundercanyoncampground.com

Here’s the link to become a member: https://www.rvoddsquad.com/join

Also, all guests, members & non-members are required to complete a waiver. You can find a copy here: https://thundercanyoncampground.com/waiver/

Thank you for your interest in joining the RV Odd Squad! We can’t wait for you to meet our other Members. They are the kindest, most giving community you’ll ever meet! God’s been so good to us.

There are 3 memberships available, each with different benefits. RVOddSquad Park Pass and Founder memberships give you 25% off campground rates at Thunder Canyon and 10% off participating campgrounds, but there’s so much more. Even our Park Pass membership pays for itself with a week’s stay!

We hope you decide to join us. It’s absolutely incredible here! It is like a National Park and Campground all in one, but honestly we love it most for the fellowship of like-minded people!

Your security is of paramount importance at Thunder Canyon Campground! The gate code is only for those staying at the campground and is not to be shared with the public.

For that reason, if you would like to invite a guest to visit you here during your stay, we must follow the following procedure.

Our rules (which can be found at thundercanyoncampground.com/rules) state that all guests must check in and register with TCC management, sign a waiver, present a government-issued photo ID & register their vehicle. Unregistered vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense.

There is also a fee to bring in additional guests. Guest fees range from $5 to $40 per person per day.

If you are looking to bring in guests, please email [email protected] and let us know what site, how many guests and what dates you are requesting guest access for (and any other information you feel relevant) and we can give you a specific answer if the guest request is approved and what that cost would be if any.

It takes us 24-72 hours to get you in the membership system. Once that happens, you will receive email instructions including your member ID.

***If you just purchased your RV Odd Squad Membership and you want to book immediately, call us at 256-632-2103! We have knowledgeable volunteers that are able to assist you M – F 9am – 5pm Central time.

RULE QUESTIONS

What time is check-in and check-out?

Check in time is 2pm and check out time is 11am. The public road leading to the camp gates is a narrow one-way road. To prevent RVs from trying to leave and arrive at the same time, we cannot make exceptions to our check in/check out times. After dark arrivals can camp in the parking lot overnight & check in the next morning.

While we cannot allow outside firewood in the campground, we have a self-service firewood station by the sheds next to Fellowship Hall. For $10 you can purchase a big bundle of local wood.

Yes!

  • Only dogs/cats are permitted
  • No Pit Bulls or aggressive dogs allowed!
  • No more than three (3) pets per site
  • Pets must be leashed on a 6ft or less leash or securely penned when outside your RV.
    • Pets are only allowed to be penned outside your RV when you are located on your site. You are not permitted to leave your animal/s penned outside if you leave your site.

For more information about TCC Pet Policy please visit our rules page HERE

Due to insurance and liability reasons no Pit Bulls or aggressive dogs are allowed.

For more information about TCC Pet Policy please visit our rules page HERE

There’s no set age limit for Rvs at Thunder Canyon, but the vehicle needs to be presentable, functional and reflect pride of ownership. We reserve the right to deny entry into the campground after inspection upon your arrival.

No off-road vehicles are permitted on TCC property.

Due to the rustic nature of the campground, we need our guests to sign a waiver. The waiver explains common sense items such as the dangers of cliffs, poison ivy and other natural “hazards.”
